The Apex Turkey TSS 16 Gauge brings balanced mid-gauge shot power to a platform many hunters have set aside. In addition, it delivers consistent 16 gauge patterning that rivals larger bores. Furthermore, this load offers reliable classic gauge performance in the field. As a result, it stands as a trusted overlooked gauge choice for hunters willing to give the 16 another look.

Balanced Mid-Gauge Shot Power Explained

Sitting between 12 and 20 gauge in bore diameter, the 16 gauge offers balanced mid-gauge shot power. Meanwhile, it skips the extra weight of a full-size 12. This TSS payload takes full advantage of that middle ground. Specifically, it carries enough pellets for dense coverage while keeping the gun light to swing. Hunters running the more common Apex Turkey TSS 20 Gauge load can compare notes on pattern density between the two.

Consistent 16 Gauge Patterning You Can Count On

A 16 gauge only earns a place in the safe if it patterns as well as the mainstream gauges. Indeed, this consistent 16 gauge patterning proves it can. Tight quality control on every batch keeps pellet spread predictable through a properly fitted turkey choke.

Reliable Classic Gauge Performance Afield

Old-school hunters loved the 16 gauge for good reason. Notably, this load’s reliable classic gauge performance honors that reputation with modern TSS density. Recoil sits comfortably between a 12 and a 20, giving hunters a pleasant middle ground on the shoulder.

Why This Trusted Overlooked Gauge Choice Deserves a Look

Ammunition scarcity has made some hunters rediscover the 16 gauge. Consequently, this trusted overlooked gauge choice rewards that curiosity with real performance. Hunters wanting a sub-gauge option instead can also check the Apex Turkey TSS 28 Gauge load.

Apex 16ga Turkey Shot FAQ

Why is 16 gauge turkey ammo harder to find?

Apex Turkey TSS 16 Gauge shells are less common because fewer manufacturers produce 16 gauge turkey loads. As a result, this scarcity is exactly why a dedicated TSS option like this one matters for 16 gauge owners.

What choke should I use with this load?

For choke selection, the Apex Turkey TSS 16 Gauge performs best through a turkey-specific or extra-full choke. This choke is built for dense TSS shot. A standard modified choke still cycles fine but loses pattern density past 25-30 yards.

Will this shell fit any 16 gauge shotgun?

Apex Turkey TSS 16 Gauge shells are built as standard 2-3/4 inch loads. As a result, any 16 gauge shotgun chambered accordingly cycles them without modification. Always double check your chamber length before firing a new load.

How should unused boxes be stored?

When it comes to storage, the Apex Turkey TSS 16 Gauge keeps best in a cool, dry cabinet. Specifically, keep it away from direct sunlight and temperature swings. Following NSSF’s ammunition storage guidelines helps every box perform as intended season after season.

Is 16 gauge a good choice for turkey hunting?

A properly loaded 16 gauge with dense tungsten shot performs well within typical turkey ranges. In fact, it offers a nice balance between 12 gauge power and 20 gauge handling. Many 16 gauge owners find it a satisfying middle ground.
